Between 15-17 October, the IISG Support Group in collaboration with EUD/ EU SR Bosnia and Herzegovina organised the 2nd Meeting of the Regional Network of WB National P/CVE Coordinators in Budva, Montenegro.
The meeting, funded by the IPA II 2016 Regional Action »Support to Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism in the Western Balkans«, was officially opened by H.E. Mevludin Nuhodžić, Minister of Interior of Montenegro, who expressed his support to the network and emphasized the role of local communities, citizens, and media together with competent state bodies and other entities in the prevention of violent extremism.
In pursuing the recently adopted joint of the Joint Action Plan on Counter-Terrorism for the Western Balkans at the EU-Western Balkans Ministerial Forum on Justice and Home Affairs, the attendees of the meeting (national P-CVE Coordinators or P-CVE representatives within the respective Ministry of Interior of the six Western Balkan countries and representatives from the European Commission, DG HOME, EEAS HQ and EU Delegations) reiterated the value of this regional platform. The latter aims to ensure effective cooperation, coordination, and sharing of best practices and lessons learned across the region.
The meeting, divided into four sessions, enabled the Western Balkan partners to share their updates regarding the implementation of national P/CVE Strategies and Action Plans. Moreover, the participants were given insights on the EU Internet Forum, presented by Ms Lucinda Armstrong from DG HOME, and the EU Internet Referral Unit. Additionally, Ms Sheelagh Bready, SAR Consultancy, shared among the participants the findings of her recent study, funded by EU SR BiH, entitled “Understanding the nature and extent of radicalisation and extremism in prisons and places of detention in BiH”.
In conclusion, Western Balkan partners shared their views on future engagements for the network.
